More Top Jumping Action on Saturday
There has been some fantastic racing in the last few weeks and there’s yet more top jumping action on Saturday to look forward to at Sandown, Newcastle and Wincanton.
At Sandown it could be yet another good day for Lambourn trainer Nicky Henderson and his stable jockey, Barry Geraghty, who have several likely candidates. Master of the Hall (pictured above right) in particular holds solid claims in the 32Red HBLB Handicap Chase 3.10pm. Geraghty advised connections to run Master Of The Hall in a valuable Listed chase at Aintree in early December and the Irishman’s suggestion proved spot on when he steered the eight-year-old to a 16l success from the subsequent scorer Tamarinbleu. Master Of The Hall only went up 6lb in the ratings for that win and, as he’s a course winner over hurdles and thoroughly at home in the expected testing conditions, he seems sure to go well. Hold On Julio, who was very impressive when winning over the course and distance in November, could be a threat and Alan King’s former hunter-chaser is worth combining with Master Of The Hall in a reverse forecast.
Henderson (pictured left) is set to introduce his French recruit Soliwery in the 32Red Poker Juvenile Hurdle 1.35pm at Sandown. A half-brother to the very smart Solix, who’s also with Henderson, Soliwery was second at Auteuil in October and it would be no surprise to see him go one better on his British debut.
Up at Newcastle it could be a good day for a much lesser known trainer and jockey combination. George Bewley and his son Jonathon have good chances of a double with Diamond D’Amour in the MGM Precision Handicap Hurdle 12.50pm and Easement in the Newcastle Flooring Handicap Hurdle 2.25pm.
Diamond D’Amour won in very good style at Carlisle last time and the strongly built grey, who’s only had half a dozen races in his life, should have plenty of improvement in him. Easement signed off with a double last term and he made a very pleasing reappearance when third at Catterick three weeks ago.
How To Back Winners is also interested in
Non Dom (pictured right) at Wincanton on Saturday. Non Dom was fancied to go well at Ascot last time but never got involved in the race won by Our Father. Hughie Morrison’s gelding is capable of running much better in the Bathwick Tyres Handicap Hurdle 3.25pm. He’s worth chancing as he would have strong claims on his best form if the first time blinkers work.
